7 Tips for First Time Home Buyers
Shopping around for your first home can be a difficult process and there are a couple of factors that should be kept in mind. The right home is one that you like, the one you can afford. Making it a full fledged home depends entirely on the people residing in the house.
1. Select a location
Selecting a location is of prime importance. It should be close to your place of work. If you are having kids, the house you select should not make commuting difficult for the kids. You should be able to shop around for your daily basic needs like grocery, health care clinics etc.
2. Budget your expenses
Budget your expenses and see how much you can afford. Look around for a couple of houses. If they are exceeding your budget, revise the budget or revise the houses. If you cant afford a house, renting is not a bad idea either.
3. Know the market well
SFind out for how much did the other houses in the same locality sell for. Often, the asking price of houses is not their actual price. They are inflated, so it is best to see around the house and assess its true value.
4. Consider the down payment amount
If you can make a bigger down payment, you also enjoy a lower rate. Making a down payment which is 20% less is not uncommon though.
5. Consider other expenses
There are various other costs that should be taken into consideration by first time home buyers. Check out what will be your monthly payments. Total monthly costs usually include homeowners insurance, taxes, escrow etc.
6. Dont waste too much on modification
You may be tempted to make too many modifications in the house. It is best to prioritize your modification expenses and spend on areas which require your urgent attention.
7. Dont rush
Buying a new home is often an investment of a lifetime. It should not be done in haste. Take your time to settle a deal and most important is to beware of fake real estate agents.
